FREE | BOOK ONLINE

KANARIS THEATRE

Join us for an evening of remembering, honouring and sharing stories from the Windrush generation.

A screening of Milestone: Streets Paved With Gold will be followed by a Q&A discussion with Victor Richards who stars in, wrote and directed the film, alongside local guests. The panel will reflect on experiences and legacies of the Windrush generation, with opportunities for the audience to join in the conversation.

Milestone: Streets Paved with Gold is a powerful new film honouring the Windrush generation and the Caribbean migration experience in Britain. Adapted from Victor Richards’ acclaimed one-man play, this 60-minute cinematic journey follows Augustus Cleveland Johnson from his 1948 arrival in England through decades of resilience, family, culture, and identity.

Blending voiceover, vivid recreations, and historical archives, the film immerses viewers in a heartfelt tribute to a generation that helped shape modern Britain. Filmed across Leicester and the Midlands, it’s a moving, sensory celebration of Caribbean-British heritage. Find out more information about Victor and the film.

This event is part of a series of 'Caribbean Nights' at Manchester Museum which aim to bring local Caribbean communities together to connect and explore Caribbean representation, culture, heritage and histories.

To find out more about the project and/or if you have any ideas for Caribbean night themes and activities you can email Chloe and Pascale.
