Filming and photography
We’ve lost count of the number of memorable moments created at your Museum over the years and we hope you continue to create many more.
We also know that many of you will want to capture those moments, so we’re happy for you to film and take photographs inside Manchester Museum if it conforms with the principles below.
Filming for personal, non-commercial use is permitted using hand-held cameras, phones and small recording devices.
We do not allow the use of equipment such as camera stands, tripods, monopods, external flashes, lighting or microphones.
Please show consideration for the experience of other visitors when taking photographs or filming and do not block entrances, exits and key access points.
Please do not touch objects, plinths or cases while taking photographs or filming.
You are free to film or photograph the Museum, exhibitions and collections but must not film or photograph members of staff or the public, unless their consent has been obtained. Consent must also be obtained before publication of any material identifying members of staff or the public, whether on social media or elsewhere.
If we believe someone is filming or photographing another person without their consent or engaging in activity that otherwise raises security concerns, we may ask them to stop and leave the premises.
There are some exceptions to these principles and there may be some spaces where filming and photography is not permitted. Our Visitor Team are available to provide guidance and may approach you to ask about the purposes of your photography or filming.
Social media
We love it when visitors share their experiences with us on social media so please do tag us into any images or video that conform with the above principles using the handles below.
