EXHIBITION HALL
How much do you know about where your mobile phone comes from?
Drop in to the Human Natures exhibition to meet members of the London Mining Network. Have a go at their interactive PhoneCycle game and discover the hidden stories behind the materials that power our everyday technology. Explore how the demand for phones, batteries and electronics connects people and environments across the world and what we can do to help create a fairer future.
This event also highlights two major mining disasters and the communities fighting for justice. Learn about more than a century of pollution linked to lead and zinc mining in Zambia, and the ongoing legal action brought by 140,000 women and children seeking accountability for the contamination of their communities. Explore the story of the Fundão dam collapse in Brazil, where vast quantities of toxic mud destroyed villages, polluted water and changed lives.
Mining experts Richard Harkinson and Paul Robson will be available to share their knowledge. You can also find out how to support campaigns for responsible mining such as the Fossil Free Science Museum Coalition and Quakers for Congo.
Come along to explore, ask questions, play the game and join the conversation about how technology, justice and the environment are connected.
