RESEARCH STUDIO, FLOOR 2
When you see a broken ancient figurine, you might imagine something lost; a once complete body damaged by time. But what if the whole idea wholeness misses the point?
In this Collection Bites, you’ll meet a 5,000-year-old clay fragment from the Neolithic Vinča culture. We will take a look at the making and breaking of human-shaped bodies in miniature and consider how identity might be understood as something shared between people, materials and landscape. Together, we’ll try to disentangle what we mean by completeness. We’ll use fragments as storytellers about belonging and whose bodies we imagine as whole.
Collection Bites is an adult programme, however the content is suitable for all ages. Presented by the Museum’s Visitor Team, the talks are approx. 30 minutes. They take place on the first Wednesday of each month in the Research Studio on Floor 2 (accessible by stairs or lift).
Please note: Tickets are very limited. If you are no longer able to attend, please cancel your booking through Eventbrite, or email museum@manchester.ac.uk to let us know, so we can offer your place to someone else.
