Manchester Museum has a significant numismatics collection, which includes a large number of Roman coins found locally, a major portion of the Knott Mill hoard, and donations such as the William Sharp Ogden collection of Roman Alexandrian coins.
The Museum houses a significant collection of around 70,000 coins and related items, including ancient Greek, Roman, Byzantine, and coins from North-West European Iron Age, Parthia, South Asia, and China.
The collection also includes research-focused numismatic material, such as the Roman coins found locally and the Byzantine coin collection of John Shaw.
