17 Jun 2023 -18 Jun 2023

Salford Quays and Media City, Greater Manchester

2023 UK Chinese Dragon Boat Festival

Join us at Salford Quays for the annual Dragon Boat Festival, cheer on the Manchester Museum team as they participate in this fun-filled water sports activity which originated in China over 2,300 years ago.

This year the festival is set to be bigger and better than ever before. There will be spectacular cultural performances, including Tai chi and kung fu and lessons in Chinese calligraphy.

UK Chinese Dragon Boat Festival (CDBF) is one of the most high profile events organised by the Xinhua Chinese Association (XCA). With supports from local councils, communities and organisations, and Consulate-General of the People’s Republic of China in Manchester, the Festival has been a fast growing event including amateur team dragon boat racing, diversity of culture show and presentations, and taste of authentic food since it was first held in June 2012 at MediaCityUK, Salford, Great Manchester.

You can help us care for our collections and bring joy and inspiration to people in Manchester and beyond

As one of the UK’s largest university museums, we care for over 4.5 million objects, with an internationally-important collection spanning from Archaeology to Zoology, and nearly everything in between. We work with communities, support university students and schools in Manchester and beyond and we are a free, inclusive museum for all. But we need your help. Every object we care for, exhibition, school visit and community event comes at a cost, and you can help make the museum as ambitious and impactful as possible.
