hello future
hello future is the £15 million project to transform Manchester Museum. The aim is to build better understanding between cultures and a more sustainable world; and our vision is to become the most inclusive, imaginative and caring museum you might encounter.
A brand new two-storey extension has now been built and the stunning South Asia Gallery and Exhibition Hall have been created.

Now we are getting to the really exciting bit... the final phase of construction!
Although we are delighted to reach this important milestone, it is with a heavy heart that we must temporarily close our doors to the public so that this phase of work can take place safely. The safety of our visitors is always our priority.
The museum is closed to the public from Sunday 29 August 2021 until February 2023.
When we reopen in 2023 we will be a bigger, more caring and even more inclusive museum and include:
- Exhibition Hall
- South Asia Gallery
- Lee Kai Hung Chinese Culture Gallery
- Belonging Gallery
- Top Floor – The Future of Education
- New Entrance and Visitor Facilities
The museum will also gain an impressive new entrance, shop, café, picnic areas and other inclusive visitor facilities that are fully accessible.
