Manchester Museum Celebrates Vesak
Discover one of the most important festivals in the Buddhist calendar and join the celebrations during Vesak at the Museum.
Vesak is the time when Southern Buddhist schools celebrate the birth, enlightenment and final passing away of the Buddha.
We’re marking the occasion with activities throughout the day.
Manchester Museum Celebrates Vesak programme
10am-12pm – Lantern and paper lotus flower making workshop – provided by Ketumati Vihara.
Drop in, suitable for families
1-2.15pm – Introduction to Vesak and Buddhist Vesak chanting from a variety of Buddhist groups & traditions in the Living Worlds gallery.
Buddhist cultural Performances
2.30-3pm – Sri Lankan Bakthi Geetha Performed by Ketumati Vihara Dhamma School – a singing and poetry performance by children and adults, performed in Sinhala.
3-3.30pm – Sri Lankan Kandyan Dance performance.
3.30-4pm – Poetry and storytelling performance of verses from the Dhammapada with Ingrid Burney.
4-4.10pm – Closing chanting and speech.
