hello future is a major project to develop and transform the museum to bring more wonder and inspiration from around the world to visitors. Between 2018 and 2021 there will be extensive redevelopment work at the museum; some of our galleries will be closed and our Family Programme in its current format will be changing to make way for an exciting new offer when the Museum re-opens in 2021.
Until the end of August, our usual summer holiday activities as well as Baby Explorers and Magic Carpet andprogrammes will continue. From Autumn 2018 we will be piloting new activities so keep an eye on the events and exhibitions calendar.
The dates of our last early years family programmes will be:
Baby Explorers 21 Aug 2018
Magic Carpet 31 Aug 2018
See, Make and Do: Autism Friendly Early Openings: Our Autism Friendly Early Openings and Holiday activities will be continuing during the development. Join us for our early openings at the Museum aimed at children who have autism and other needs, along with their families/carers, and siblings. Activities take place before the Museum opens to the general public and there is a quiet room available. Find out more using the events and exhibitions calendar.
October 2018 onwards: The Museum will go back to its roots as a natural history museum for the period of the development work. Our Natural History galleries, as well as our Vivarium (Live Animals gallery) and Fossils galleries will remain open throughout our redevelopment (find out more here).
You can also visit Nature Discovery, our dedicated gallery for under 5’s, where children can explore the natural world on floor 1. Look out for our toddler handling table in Nature Discovery gallery facilitated by our volunteers. Collect copies of our I Spy Nature leaflet for ideas and use the pair of (tear off) binoculars for spotting animals around the Museum.
Our Family friendly facilities until Sept 30 2018 include:
- Baby changing
- Picnic area
- Buggy park
Our Family Friendly Facilities from 2nd October 2018 include:
