Where learning lives

Bringing people together to ask big questions and spark imagination.

Why is learning at the heart of the museum?

Getting close to culture is critical to education and wellbeing and we want you to be able to make the most out of your museum.

Through objects, we can offer new perspectives and a powerful sense of connection to the past, our world and each other. By caring for and looking at the past, we also stake a claim on what matters in the future.

As well as learning opportunities in the museum, we take objects beyond the building’s walls and work with local communities, helping more people to embrace their curiosity.

From autumn 2023, we will have brand-new learning spaces to teach, study and get closer to the collections. More information coming soon.

You can help us care for our collections and bring joy and inspiration to people in Manchester and beyond.

As one of the UK’s largest university museums, we care for over 4.5 million objects, with an internationally-important collection spanning from Archaeology to Zoology, and nearly everything in between. We work with communities, support university students and schools in Manchester and beyond and we are a free, inclusive museum for all. But we need your help. Every object we care for, exhibition, school visit and community event comes at a cost, and you can help make the museum as ambitious and impactful as possible.
