Keeping you safe

We are delighted to be welcoming visitors back and want to make sure we do so as safely as possible

When I visit, will I need to give my name and contact number for test and trace?

Yes, your name and contact details will be required as part of the online booking. If you come to the Museum without a timed ticket booking, you will be asked to provide your name and a contact telephone number.

Will you check my temperature as I enter the Museum?

We will not check your temperature on entering the Museum, although if you suspect that you may have a temperature we ask that you delay your visit until it is safe to do so.

Do I need to wear a face mask?

In line with government guidelines for busy public spaces you are required to wear a face covering during your visit. However we realise it’s not possible for everyone.   There’s more information about face masks and exemptions here

Will the Museum staff be wearing protective equipment?

We have introduced face coverings and visors for our staff.

How will I be able to social distance in the Museum?

We have reduced the numbers of visitors in the Museum at any time and have installed signs throughout the Museum to remind all visitors about social distancing measures.

Will I be able to wash my hands?

Sanitiser stations are located at the entrance and throughout the Museum, and our toilets are all open for you to use.

Are there benches in the Museum for visitors? Is it safe to use these?

Yes, we have benches on the Ground Floor and First Floor galleries. These are cleaned regularly. Please maintain 2m social distance when sitting on the benches.

Can physically less able visitors visit the Museum as usual? What provisions will be made?

Lifts are available for those who need them most. Lift occupancy is limited to one household/support bubble at a time. This might mean that you will need to wait to use it.

Lifts are available to visitors with wheelchairs, buggies and mobility aids and full access provision is available to them throughout the Museum. We have benches in the Ground Floor and First Floor galleries as usual with an increased cleaning programme in place to support this. Portable stools and wheelchairs are available on request, on a first come, first served basis. Stools and wheelchair handles will be cleaned between users.

Am I able to store items in the lockers?

No. Our lockers are not available at the moment. We advise you to travel light and bring only what you need with you as you will have to carry it.

Are the toilets open?

Toilet facilities are available on the Basement Floor and First Floor, you might need to queue and please allow visitors to exit the toilets before you enter.

What about family visits and baby changing?

Baby changing facilities are available as normal with an enhanced cleaning programme in place.

Can we visit as a group?

Groups of up to 6 people are allowed, in line with Government guidelines
