We've been working hard to create an enjoyable and safe visit.

What are your new opening hours?

We are open Wednesday to Sunday, 11am – 4pm.

Last entry is at 3:30pm

Is the whole Museum open?

All our natural history galleries are open and free for you to visit, including Stan the T.rex and our Vivarium.

Our Egypt and Ancient Worlds galleries are closed until 2022 while we are transforming the Museum with our £13.5 million ‘hello future’ project.

Our take away coffee shop will be opening on Monday 21 September, 8am - 4pm.

Our Museum Shop will be opening Monday 5 October, 10am-4pm.

How long can I stay?

We would recommend giving yourself an hour but you can stay for as long as you want up to 4pm.

For the safety of all our visitors and staff, everyone must book online in advance. Book your visit here.

If you are buying tickets as a group, you can book up to 6 tickets online. Each person in the group must have their own ticket. We cannot admit groups larger than 6 people.

To avoid disappointment, please try to arrive up to 5 minutes before your time slot. Please follow government advice on social distancing. You can meet people from outside your household at the Museum following government advice on social distancing.

Latecomers will only be admitted if there is capacity to do so, and if it is safe for other visitors and our staff.

If I just turn up will I be allowed in?

Visitors with tickets will be given priority on entering, you may need to queue if you do not book in advance and entrance cannot be guaranteed.

If I can’t come to my allocated slot, can I exchange it for another time?

Museum entry tickets are free so if you cannot make your time slot, please book again online for another time that’s convenient. If you can cancel your previous booking too, that would be very helpful for our staff.

If you have any special access requirements, please call us on 0161 275 2648 and we’ll be happy to help. We’d be grateful if people only call this number if it is absolutely essential as we have very limited resource to answer calls and need to prioritise those who don’t have another booking option.

Do I have to wear a mask?

Yes, if you can.  We are asking our visitors to wear a face mask when visiting. This is in line with government guidelines for busy public spaces. There’s more information about face masks and exemptions here.

What social distancing measures are there?

We have a one way route around the museum and signage throughout designed to keep visitors and staff safe.  Our timed ticketing system and reduced capacity keep visitor figures at a safe level.
