Exhibitions

As well as our permanent galleries, the Museum has a varied programme of temporary exhibitions.

Unearthed: Ancient Egypt
Journey back to the 1920s to our Egyptologist’s storeroom for some archaeological training. Can you help our Egyptologist (played on film by Horrible Histories’ Terry Deary) investigate his finds? Until 6 Sep 2012

Grave Secrets: Tales of the Ancient Nubians
An exhibition of bone specimens and artefacts excavated during the Archaeological Survey of Nubia (1907-1911), revealing the lives of the inhabitants of ancient Nubia, Egypt’s southern neighbour. Until 4 Mar 2012

Alan Turing and Life’s Enigma
Inspired by 1950s design and combining Alan Turing’s notes with museum objects, this exhibition documents Turing’s investigation into one of the great mysteries of nature: how complex shapes and patterns arise from simple balls of cells. 24 Mar-18 Nov 2012

The Museum Allotment
Our allotment has been inspired by our new Living Worlds gallery which explores the connections between all living things, including us, and shows how we can all shape the future by the choices we make. One of the choices we can make is to grow food – on our windowsills, in our gardens, in our schools or on an allotment. Until autumn 2012

Health Rocks
Scientists believe doing five simple things a day can protect our mental wellbeing. This display and trail shows how the Museum could contribute to your five a day.
