Arts
Drawing at Manchester Museum! - KS4
Our new drawing programme focuses on observational drawing from the amazing collection of objects at the Manchester Museum. This works directly with core GCSE requirements and skills. All sessions and resources are fun, accessible and quick-paced.
This new programme delivers art based skills and techniques, and also provides teachers with a useable body of work for students to use when back at school.
ART CARDS. Free. 2 hours.
ART CARDS contain over 50 quick-paced, creative drawing activities. This self-guided resource allows students to produce large amounts of observational drawings direct from the museum collection. The cards enable students to consider and record line and pattern, colour and tone, form and texture and cultural/artists ideas and subjects within objects. Up to 30 students can use this resource in 3 galleries here at the Museum.
Artist–led Drawing Sessions. £50. 1 hour.
Students will work with a practicing artist to creatively document a wide variety of un-cased objects, ranging from intricate reptile skeletons to giant mineral specimens. The artist will use experimental, fast-paced and fun techniques, to engage students in observational drawing.
The large collection of drawings, prints, and marks that students produce during the session can be used within a project suggested by the artist upon return to school. Teachers can choose from three collections of objects, which will theme each drawing sessions and relate to work being completed at school.
Pattern – Hippo skulls, huge crystals, intricate fern fossils, coral, Chinese calendars, elephant’s teeth and Nigerian hats!
Artist-led introduction to ART CARDS. £25
The artist will introduce the class to the ART CARDS and deliver creative demonstrations on the galleries. The artist will also show the students and teachers how the drawings can be used back at school and relate this to current GCSE Art and Design examination questions.
Drawing sessions can be coupled with ART CARDS to build a half day sessions at the Manchester Museum.
Please note that all sessions need to be booked in advance, including any self-guided time on the galleries with our ART CARDS.
To book any of our Art–related sessions, or use of the ART CARDS, please contact Cat Lumb on Catherine.lumb@manchester.ac.uk or call 0161 3061765
