With over 6 million objects in its collections, reflecting all life on Earth, The Manchester Museum provides a unique opportunity for your pupils - hands-on experience of the real thing, from the Ancient Egyptians to the animals of the Amazon. Museum staff lead a range of hands-on sessions linked to the National Curriculum.

Our Collections - Ancient Egypt

A sarcophagus in the Ancient Egypt Gallery

The Manchester Museum is home to one of the largest and most important collections of ancient Egyptian artefacts in the UK. The collection includes objects from prehistoric Egypt (c. 10,000 BC) to the Byzantine era, up to around AD 600. We have now started work on our new Ancient Worlds galleries, opening late 2012, which will replace the current Ancient Egypt and Archaeology galleries. The Daily Life section of Ancient Egypt is now closed and the Death and the Afterlife section of Ancient Egypt and Archaeology will close on 20 Feb 2012. You can see many of the removed objects in our temporary exhibition Unearthed: Ancient Egypt,  until 6 Sep 2012.

Stan The T. rex

Stan the T.rex at The Manchester Museum

He had a bone-crushing bite that could push teeth the size of bananas through thick bone- but don't let that stop you from checking out Stan the T. rex!
