Egyptian Chronology

Chronology of Egyptian Periods, with particular reference to the building of Kahun and it's subsequent occupation periods.

4800 - 3050 BC Predynastic Period Egypt was disunited.
3050 — 2705 BC Archaic Period This is the earliest aspect of Dynastic Egypt, when the land was first united under one Pharaoh.
2705 — 2213 BC Old Kingdom Pharaoh's of a united Egypt were buried in a pyramid complex, giving rise to the term the 'Pyramid Age' for this magnificent time. One of the most well known Pharaohs was Cheops.
2213 — 1991 BC First Intermediate Period Egypt was disunited again.
1991 — 1668 BC Middle Kingdom The Middle Kingdom is divided into three Dynasties.
c.2025 — 1985 BC Eleventh Dynasty The Eleventh Dynasty is divided into pre-unification and post-unification periods.
c.1985 - 1795 BC Twelfth Dynasty
1985 — 1955 Amenemhat I
1965 — 1920 Senwosret I
1922 — 1878 Amenemhet II
1880 — 1874 Senwosret II Founding of Kahun town and building of Illahun pyramid
1874 - 1855 Senwosret III
1855 — 1808 Amenemhat III
1814 — 1799 Amenmhat IV
1799 — 1795 Sobekneferu
c.1795-1700 BC Thirteenth Dynasty Kahun abandoned by the early Thirteenth Dynasty after approximately 100 years' occupation
1668 — 1570 BC

Second Intermediate Period

Fourteenth — Seventeenth Dynasties

Egypt was disunited again
1570 — 1070 BC

New Kingdom

Eighteenth — Twentieth Dynasties

This is the time when Pharaoh's such as Tutankhamun and 'Ramesses the Great' were buried in the Valley of the Kings.

715 — 332 BC Late Period
715 — 656 BC Twenty-Fifth Dynasty
664 — 525 BC Twenty-Sixth Dynasty (Saite Period )
525 — 404 BC Twenty-Seventh Dynasty (Persian Period)
404 — 342 BC Twenty-Eighth — Thirtieth Dynasties
342 — 332 BC Thirty-First Dynasty (Second Persian Period)
332 BC — AD 395 Greek and Roman Period (Graeco-Roman)
332 — 30 BC The Ptolemies Alexander the Great; Cleopatra VII
30 BC — AD 395 Roman Period Kahun re-occupied for a short while during this period. Tombs appear in Acropolis Mansion
